Audrey's development

Our baby has exploded in the last month.  No, this isn't another diaper related post - but rather a collection of her most recent milestones and developments.

Big Girl

Audrey has been wearing 12 to 18 month clothing since she was 6 months old.  Holy chunker.  Not only is she rolly-poly, but she is TALL.  Assuming things stay on track, I figure she'll be at least two inches taller than me as an adult.  Her pediatrician says she is perfectly proportioned, not too lanky and not too chubby....our only gripe is that she's blown through a few sizes so fast that we clearly wasted our resources in acquiring them in the first place.  If only we had known we could jump from 3 month to 12 month clothes, we could have saved a lot of money!

The Gift of Gab

We have entered into a new era - one filled with NOISE.  What used to be the occasional excited shriek is now a steady babble of sound.  Audrey can say b's, m's and d's....with the D sound having come several weeks after the others.  It's now her default chatter.  She reserves her M sound for when she's frustrated, which tends to come across as MMMMMAA!  So, she yells at her ma when she's upset, and she babbles her dada's when she's happy.  Oh, I see how we're going to play this.

Peek-a-boo

The jury is still out as to how intentional her peek-a-boo playing is, but I'm becoming convinced that she knows what she's doing.  Often times she initiates the play when she's getting up from a nap.  I will creep into her bedroom with a big smile on my face and say "Did my baby wake up?!?!" and when I peek over her crib rail, I find her clutching her fuzzy blankie.  She'll give me a big sheepish grin and immediately pull the blankie up over her face.  A dozen "Where'd she go????  --- PEEKABOO's" later, she's done with her game and ready to be picked up for some snuggles.

I wouldn't call it crawling

Audrey is learning how to get around on her own, but I wouldn't quite call it crawling.  Not yet.  She has taken a few knee-steps forward, but the more common way she gets around is to do a combination of butt-to-belly-to-knee-to-belly-to-butt....and so on and so forth.  She lays herself out flat and then inches back up to a sitting position and repeats the process in order to gain a pretty painstakingly slow forward progress.  Crawling backwards is no problem, but she hasn't realized this to the point that she'll intentionally back in to anything yet.

Woof!

Since becoming more vocal, Audrey is finally imitating sounds.  One of my favorite noises of hers sounds kind of like a woman's tennis grunt - a really feminine, high-pitched one....not gutteral or annoying.  The best part is that she does it in imitation of the dogs.  On occasion I find her talking back to them when something gets them barking, especially if it's an isolated bark or two.  Puppy goes "woof", baby goes "uh!".

Favorite food

Most toddlers subsist solely on these - and Audrey has clearly declared them to be her absolute favorite food item to date.  Goldfish crackers.  I know, it's a little early for her to be having them, but she has yet to choke on one.  She's very good about gumming and slobbering up her food before attempting to swallow it.  In fact, I think she's pretty sick of the pureed variety of packaged baby food and up for something with more texture.  One of the videos from my last post shows Audrey displaying her reluctance to share goldfishies with her Auntie.  C'mon now, they're too good to share!
